Nubian Solea from the Coptic Period

Coptic period sandals, possibly of Nubian make. Dated to somewhere from the 4th - 5th century AD according to the  Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, where the original pair is kept, although it may be safer to say 4th-8th century AD since the provenance seems rather vague.
The design is ingenious, resulting in a very simple pattern with zero waste of leather. If you look closely, you can see that all the tie strings are part of the same piece of leather the sole comes from.
