Velsen Wooden Bowl No. 4470

I think wooden bowls, cups and similar eating utensils are underrepresented in Roman era (and probably other eras as well) living history/reenactment. Of course this is not surprising, looking at the relatively few finds we have and the perishable nature of these items. What we have clearly reflects their metal and ceramic counterparts, there are also literary references, so these must have existed in considerable numbers and varieties.

Here is a shallow bowl after a Augustean/early 1st century AD find from the Roman fort at Velsen, Netherlands. Made from alder wood (like the original), 24cm wide, 30cm long.
